General Information

The studio art class offers students an opportunity to experience the creative, more divergent areas of the learning process. The art curriculum is disciplined based including studio, aesthetics, history and criticism. Courses are sequential in design and are linked to the Visual Art Standards Grades 9-12.



Goals and Objectives:

Introduction to art practices, different mediums, artists, and art history.

Students will use a variety of methods and materials to create successful artworks they can be proud of.

Students will learn and discuss the principles and elements of design, then use them in their art work

Students will answer critical questions about art, artists, and art history.





Class Expectations



Students need to be seated before the bell rings

No food allowed in ART (drinks with LIDS only)

Place belongings under your table

Have your materials and supplies every time you come to class (pencil, paper, etc.) If it is necessary for a student to leave the classroom to get forgotten materials a tardy may be assigned to the student for the loss of class time.

Respect yourself, your teacher, classmates, and materials

Electronic Devices Policy



Disciplinary Procedure:

1st offense: warning/parent contact

2nd offense: detention

3rd offense: discipline referral



Some offenses may bypass this procedure to an immediate discipline referral. Please read your student handbook for rules for Hiram High School.



Tardy Policy:

Students must be in their assigned seat before the bell rings. Tardy infractions are cumulative for the entire semester, not per class.

Please note: These supplies will NOT be provided to the student. Student will NOT get an extension on any assignment because of missing/forgotten supplies. Students missing supplies will complete alternate assignments.





Sketchbook:



A Sketchbook is a very valuable tool for any artist. It allows for you to draw out ideas, sketch something from day to day. Sketchbooks come in all shapes and sizes, to fit every type of personality. It can also be used as a visual journal, keeping track of your day to day life. It is fun to look back at the path you have taken in life.





You are required to have a sketchbook for art. You may purchase a sketchbook or make a sketchbook. Your sketchbook must be unique to your personality! It also must show the steps you will have to take to become an artist. You will have sketchbook checks weekly to track your progress!

Remediation & Recovery

Projects and assignments will be given specific due dates. Any late assignments will be graded at teachers discretion and will have late points deducted.



Absence from Class or School

IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO RETRIEVE MISSED ASSIGNMENTS AND/OR QUIZZES/TESTS. Students will not receive additional time to complete assignments because of ISS, OSS, or testing. You may make up studio time during Open Studio or by appointment.



Missing Assignments shall be entered into the grade-book as a zero(0) until assignment(s) is turned in.

Mastery Learning/Grade Recovery Policy



A student may recover a Summative assignment provided that it was attempted when initially given.



In order to recover a Summative assignment, students must consult with their teacher to obtain the remediation assignment. This remediation assignment may include, but is not limited to, correcting the formal assignment, completing extra assignments, attending tutorial session(s), and homework completion. The student must obtain the remediation assignment within three days of receiving the graded formal assignment that they wish to recover. The student must complete the recovery assignment within a time period to be determined by their teacher.



FORMATIVE assignments (homework, quizzes, etc) MAY NOT BE RECOVERED.



Grading of recovered assignment: The original assessment grade and the recovered assessment grade will be averaged together to determine your final grade.
